This is an experimental film wanting to remind viewers that we are all just a small part of a vast universe. The only rules that Joan and I set before we began collaborating on this project was that my film and her music should be 30 minutes and I won't even hear her music until the opening.
Experimental film was premiered at Berlin Germany MaerzMusik Festival in March 2012 "Cage and Consequences" celebrating 100th anniversary of John Cage Birth as a part of Joan La Barbara live performance.
Danilo Kiš (February 22, 1935-October 15, 1989) was a Yugoslavian author and poet whose work was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. This short film is inspired by Kiš's story, "A Tomb for Boris Davidovich".
A lonely elderly man confines himself to his tiny one-room apartment, mourning the loss of his beloved wife. Over time, he forges a bond with The Room, bringing into existence a presence that eases the loneliness of his final days. Tenants come and go in the years that follow, but none form a connection with The Room and its spirit fades away.
